Summer CAP: Bridge Program

The Summer College Achievement Program gives incoming freshmen a chance to experience ENC courses before arriving on campus.

Program Goals

Students will begin the fall semester more prepared for undergraduate studies through:

  • Intensive skill building in writing or reading.
  • Intensive skill building in arithmetic or basic algebra.
  • Completion of two three-credit college courses which will allow incoming students a successful transition to the rigor of undergraduate studies.
  • Programming that promotes both individual growth and community building through academic, spiritual and recreational opportunities.

About the Program

Summer CAP (College Achievement Program) is a four-week program for students who require significant developmental coursework in English Language Arts and Mathematics. The program will serve as a bridge between high school and the freshmen year of college.

The Center is responsible for the administration of the College Achievement Program (CAP) which assists first year students in developing English and mathematics skills to a level appropriate for functioning in the college environment. Students accepted to ENC under the provisions of the CAP are tested for levels of proficiency in English and mathematics, and then placed in appropriate classes in their first year to develop these skills. Students in the CAP will be enrolled in the First Year Seminar course and based on placement testing will take one or more of the following courses:

  • Writing for College
  • Reading for College
  • Fundamentals of Math
  • Math for College
